Some cable companies offer video on demand or pay-per-view services through their cable boxes. These services let you watch movies or TV shows that are not currently being broadcast. TiVo DVRs are unable to access these services.

Broadband-connected TiVo DVRs support movie and TV downloads instead of cable video on demand for access to these types of programs.

The Comcast DVR with TiVo service supports full access to video on demand, but is currently available in very limited areas.
