- What's the difference between TiVo® DVR limited warranty and extended warranty plans?
The TiVo DVR limited warranty comes free of charge along with the purchase of your DVR and offers 90 days of coverage for parts & labor and coverage for parts only for one year starting from the DVR purchase date. Extended warranty plans offer 2-year and 3-year coverage of parts & labor, starting from the earlier of the DVR purchase date or the TiVo service activation date. In a nutshell, extended warranty plans offer you peace of mind for a longer period of time.
- Why do I need an extended warranty plan?
Like with any other electronics purchase, you should think about protecting your investment with a warranty plan. Think about your lifestyle: are you a person who likes to be covered ‘just in case'? If so, you may want to give extended warranties a thought.
- Is extended warranty plan transferrable to another DVR owner?
The extended warranty is transferable along with the DVR to which the warranty was originally applied. To transfer the extended warranty and the DVR to a new owner please contact TiVo Customer support.

- How do I get warranty service?
If you are covered under a warranty plan and you need a warranty service for your DVR, contact TiVo Customer support. A representative will be happy to assist you with all the details.
- Can I return an extended warranty?
The money back guarantee for the extended warranty is 60 days from the date of activation/warranty plan purchase. All other products sold on tivo.com come with a 30 day money back guarantee. To return an extended warranty within 60 days of purchase, please contact TiVo Customer support.
- How do I get an extended warranty after I've already purchased a DVR?
Please log into your account on tivo.com and view your DVR page to determine whether the DVR in question is eligible for an extended warranty purchase. You will be able to purchase an extended warranty up to 90 days from the earlier of the DVR purchase date to which the warranty service will be applied or the TiVo service activation date.
- How do I buy an extended warranty?
You can add an extended warranty to your DVR purchase on tivo.com by going to the DVR details page for the DVR you are purchasing. If you already purchased a DVR through retail, you can purchase an extended warranty when activating online or over the phone with a customer support agent. If you have already activated your DVR you may be able to purchase an extended warranty by logging into your account on tivo.com.
- When does the extended coverage begin?
The extended warranty begins on your DVR warranty start date. In most cases that is the day you purchased your DVR on tivo.com or the day you activated service, if you purchased from a retail location. If you purchase the extended warranty after you purchase or activate your DVR, the coverage still begins on your DVR warranty start date.
