How to get Guru Guide recommendations on a TiVo® DVR
TiVo Guru Guide recommendations are lists of television programs hand-selected by experts like the American Film Institute (AFI), Sports Illustrated, and CNET to help you discover and automatically record the best TV shows and movies. Guru Guides are updated regularly, as new shows air, so you're always sure to be watching the freshest, hottest, most interesting programs on TV!
Getting a Guru Guide from your TiVo DVR
Guru Guides generally deliver 3-10 hours of programming every week. You can record all shows in a Guru Guide list or choose just the shows that interest you most.
- Hide the steps
From the TiVo Central screen, select ‘Find Programs & Downloads’ > ‘KidZone Recommendations & Guru Guides.’
Select a category. You’ll see list of Guru Guides in that category on the right side of the screen.
Select a guide that interests you. An information screen will tell you more about the guide.
Do one of the following:
- Select “Get This Guide”
If you choose this option, all the shows in the Guru Guide will be automatically recorded. The list of shows will continually update over time. If you like, you can select “Options” to customize your recording options. Want to keep all shows in the guide? Select “All” from the “Keep at Most” choice. Want to skip re-runs? Set “First Run Only” as the “Show Type.” - Select “View Upcoming Programs”
Use this option to see a list of shows in the Guru Guide that will be airing over the next two weeks. This can be a good choice if you want to record only certain selections from the Guru Guide; you can select any title from the list to schedule a recording or view upcoming showings.

You can schedule a Guru Guide even if you're not at home. Just visit tivo.com.
- Hide the steps
Sign in to your account at tivo.com and click "Online Scheduling."
In the left navigation window, click "Guru Guides."
Select a Guru Guide that interests you.
A screen will display upcoming shows in the Guru Guide. If you want to receive all the shows, click "Get this Guide." If you don't want certain shows, click on the check marks to clear them, and then click "Get this Guide."
Set your recording options. For instance, you can select which DVR on your account should receive the shows, or choose what to do if any of your shows conflict with other scheduled recordings.
Click "Schedule it!"
Managing your Guru Guides
You can always modify or cancel your Guru Guides, either from your TiVo DVR or from tivo.com.
- Hide the steps
Do one of the following:
- From the TiVo Central screen, click "Find Programs & Downloads."
- Select "Season Pass Manager". Guru Guides are listed with your Season Passes. Select your Guru Guide.
- From the Guide information screen, you can change your recording options, cancel the Guide, or view upcoming shows.
- To add or remove shows, select "View Upcoming Episodes." Shows with check marks will be recorded; those without will not be recorded.
- Select a show to record or cancel, then choose "Record this episode" or "Cancel this recording."
To modify your Guru Guide online:
- Sign in to your account at tivo.com and click "Online Scheduling."
- In the left navigation window, click "Manage Guides." From here, you can add or remove shows, edit your recording options, or cancel the Guide.
