| | WARNING: Do not attempt to install or uninstall TiVo Desktop 2.5 using the Windows Remote Desktop feature. |
| | NOTE: To install TiVo Desktop for Windows, you must have Administrator or Power User administrative rights on your computer. |
| | Before you install a new version of TiVo Desktop, you must remove any previous version. - To uninstall a previous version, use the Windows XP Add & Remove Programs control panel, or the Windows Vista Programs and Features control panel. For instructions, see How do I uninstall TiVo Desktop?
- If this is unsuccessful, use the TiVo Desktop Cleaner utility to completely remove the prior installation. TiVo Desktop Cleaner does not remove your MAK or TiVo Desktop Plus keys.
- If you already uninstalled a previous version, and the installer is terminating prematurely, you may be able to resolve the problem by using the following steps:
- Re-install VBScript: To do this, download VBScript from the Microsoft web site and follow the directions for installation. Once you have installed VBScript, try to install TiVo Desktop again.
- If installing VBScript did not resolve TiVo Desktop installation problems, try registering VBScript with Windows. Many installers use the Microsoft Windows VBScript functionality to customize installations.

7. When the registration is complete, you will see a response indicating that the registration of VBScript has succeeded. Click the OK button. |

8. Close the Command Prompt window and launch the Tivo Desktop 2.5.1 installation. |

Follow the steps below to use the TiVo Desktop Cleaner utility to remove a previous version of TiVo Desktop.

| | 1. Download TiVo Desktop Cleaner, locate the downloaded file TivoDesktopCleaner.zip, right click on the file, and select Extract All... to extract the files into a folder on the desktop. |

| | 2. Open the folder containing the extracted TiVo Desktop Cleaner files. If you are running Windows XP, right click on the TivoDesktopCleaner file and choose Open from the drop down menu.
If you are running Windows Vista, right click on the TivoDesktopCleaner file and select Run as Administrator from the drop down menu. If you have Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) enabled, a window is displayed which states "If you started this action, continue." Click the Continue button to run TiVo Desktop Cleaner. |

| | 3. When the Command Prompt window is displayed, you are asked if you want to continue. Type "Y" to allow Tivo Desktop Cleaner to remove the current installation. |

| | 4. TiVo Desktop Cleaner performs the following functions: - Stopping software
- Cleaning registry
- Zapping installation
- Deleting files
When these tasks are complete, you will see the message "TiVo Desktop has been removed from your system." Press any key to complete the process and close the Command Prompt window.

| | 5. Now that the previous version of TiVo Desktop is removed, launch the Tivo Desktop installation. |
