What is the 30 minute cache and how does it work?

07-07-02Search Reference Number
  • Your TiVo DVR records the current channel to its memory for the most recent 30 minutes. The DVR is then able to pause, rewind, and fast forward live TV using this cached video.
  • If you choose to record a program within the first 30 minutes, the DVR is able to record the entire program from the cache as long as the program has not ended and you record at Best quality. After the first 30 minutes, the DVR can record only the last 30 minutes of the program.
  • To record a program, press the Record button on the TiVo remote control. You will have the option to record the cache at Best Quality or record live TV at a different quality. To record the programming that has been saved in the 30 minute cache, you must select Record at Best Quality.

IMPORTANT: If you change the channel the cached video is lost and the DVR starts to cache the program on the channel you are now watching.
