Getting initial program information

Step one:At the end of Guided Setup, the DVR will contact the TiVo Service to get program information for the current day, enabling you to begin using your DVR right away.

 
 
  • If you have a phone connection to the TiVo service, start at Step 2.
  • If you have a network connection, press SELECT on your remote when you see Begin Network Connection, and then go to Step 6.
 

Step two:Phone connections to the TiVo service must use a local number. When you see the Dial-In Number screen in Guided Setup, press SELECT to choose a dial-in number.

Step three:Choose a local dial-in number and press SELECT.

 
 

Warning:The DVR will be calling this number frequently to get updated program information, service updates, and other features. If you are not sure whether the number you choose will be a “free” phone call under your service plan, contact your phone company.

Step four:Choose the format your phone must use to dial out to the local number and press SELECT.

Step five:Press SELECT to begin the local phone call.

Step six:The Getting Program Info connection will begin. Once all sections of the connection are listed as Done, press SELECT to continue.

Step seven:The DVR confirms that you now have a full day of programming. After you complete Guided Setup, the DVR will contact the service again, and download additional program information. Within a few hours, you will have a full two weeks of programming.

Step eight:If you have a phone connection, you will see the One Last Thing screen, which explains how the phone call will work.

 
 

Note:Any time after Guided Setup completes, you can make a connection to the TiVo service by following the instructions in How Do I Connect to the TiVo Service?

Step nine:On the Congratulations! screen, press the TiVo button on your remote to begin enjoying your TiVo DVR!

Note:When you first start using your DVR, some new features you've heard about may be missing. If a software update is available, your DVR will receive it during the second successful call after Guided Setup completes, and the new software will be installed when the DVR restarts (usually around 2 AM). For more information, see Software Version Troubleshooting.
