Why do I need a service plan?

Any TiVo BOLT or TiVo DVR requires a subscription to our hosted services (what we call the TiVo service) and a broadband Internet connection in order to function properly.

The TiVo service provides functionality to a TiVo BOLT or a TiVo DVR, including providing program guide information and the following features:

  • One Pass® recording: automatically finds and records every available episode of a series, all season long
  • WishList® search: finds and records programs that feature your favorite actor, director, team, or even topic
  • Smart Recording: automatically detects program line-up changes for your cable/satellite provider and adjusts recording times accordingly, so you don't have to worry about the details
  • TiVo Suggestions: Your TiVo BOLT or TiVo DVR can be programmed to suggest and auto-record programs that may match your interests
  • Parental Controls: lock channels, or set ratings limits, based on content.

Each of these features and any additional features or functionality of the TiVo BOLT or TiVo DVR, are all part of the "TiVo service". Features of the TiVo service are not guaranteed and are subject to change.
