A Thousand Cuts

In 2012, Maria Ressa, along with three other colleagues, founded Rappler, an online news portal that publishes investigative pieces. The news site caught the attention of the Duterte-led Philippine government in 2016, when it started publishing articles critical of the administration, especially with regards to drug policy and disinformation. A Thousand Cuts is a documentary film that centers on this conflict, and what its repercussions are on press freedom in the country.
